Michael Hagarman
Michael V. Hagarman is a young professional bassist who has performed in all types of groups ranging from Pit orchestras to Big Band to Chamber ensembles. Hagarman has studied and performed Tango, Klezmer music, and jazz and orchestral pieces by many composers. Hagarman is a recent graduate from Kutztown University where he received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Music. While at Kutztown, Hagarman studied under the private instruction of Mr. Scott Lee who performed with jazz greats like Chet Baker and Joe Lovano. Hagarman has also done multiple Jazz ensembles under Dr. Kevin Kjos as well as Chamber ensembles and University Orchestra under Dr. Maria Asteriadou, Dr. Tim Schwarz, and Dr. Peter Isaacson. Michael has shared the stage with violin icons David Kim and Kurt Nikkanen as well.
The combination of mentors, ensembles, exposure, and practice has turned Hagarman into a steadily working musician. Hagarman sat principle bass in the University Orchestra and played bass in both jazz bands at KU. Outside of Kutztown, Hagarman sat in the pit orchestra for the Broadway musical Matilda and studied with New York bassist Ron Wasserman, principle bass of the New York City Ballet Orchestra. Michael has also performed the bass book for many musicals along with small groups for private events such as weddings, MLB scholarship fundraisers, and Bat Mitzvahs. Michael Hagarman plans to attend graduate school in the future to continue studying music and Bass.
